Fact Family Fun

When students are learning facts, it can be overwhelming! There is so much to focus on when understanding how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. However, these are skills students will use throughout their entire lives. So, it is crucial students gain understanding and confidence. One of the best ways to do this involves fact families. This helps students understand how numbers all have a relationship with one another. Thankfully, there are many creative ways to incorporate fact family fun into the classroom! So, let’s dive in and explore how to make fact family learning hands-on.

Hands-on Learning

When I first introduced fact families, most of my students caught on quickly. However, some needed a hands-on way to understand the concept. So, I came up with an idea to get them physically involved. I used three-page protector sheets and put yarn in the holes so they could hang on student’s necks. Then, I slipped in three numbers to make a fact family.  I wrote a + sign and = sign on the board and had students make an addition fact with their numbers.  Then, they had to do a “turn around fact” to make the other addition problem.  I made a huge deal about how the biggest number person did not move. Specifically, only the two smaller numbers did. After, I put a – sign on the board and had students move to make a subtraction problem. Lastly, they switched to make the other subtraction problem. We discussed that the biggest number started both subtraction problems.

Honestly, students had so much fun with this learning! They were laughing and smiling while working so hard on fact family fun.

Addition and Subtraction Fact Strategies

This is the perfect resource to add to any classroom working on addition! Students will work on 8 addition and 7 subtraction fact strategies. Best of all, they will do this by learning songs and practicing their strategies! Students will love fact family fun with this activity.

Addition Fact Strategies

Learning addition takes time and practice. So, this packet is perfect to help students build their skills! Specifically, it includes 8 addition fact strategies by learning songs. Every strategy includes a poster, a song to learn the strategy, a letter home to parents, and practice pages. Addition will be so fun in your classroom!

Interactive Fact Folder

Interactive fact folders are such a fun activity to integrate reading with science and social studies in any classroom! They allow students to focus on essential academic skills while learning about seasonal elements. So, there are fact folders designed for the entire year. This includes bats and spiders in October and turkeys and Veterans Day in November. Every month includes 3 interactive fact folders for year-long engagement.

Students will learn about each topic by reading the included comprehension passages and working on vocabulary. Additionally, they will work on graphic organizers, coloring, and their writing skills.

Interactive Math Fact Folders

Since teachers are busy, this hands-on project keeps that in mind while making prep instructions and materials easy. Everything is ready to print; students just need a 12 x 18 piece of paper or file folder.

Students spend so much time in the classroom. So, they deserve fun and engaging activities to help them focus. Thankfully, the fact family fun and interactive folders do exactly this. Students will love learning in your classroom!
