Penguins {Nonfiction & Fiction}

It’s back to the real world tomorrow!  I know tomorrow morning is going to be ROUGH.  I have been sleeping in until at least 7:30 and tomorrow, the alarm clock will be set again for 5:00 am.  Going back after a break is always sooooooooo hard.  I will actually have to get out of my pj’s before sunrise and I won’t be able to go and get my almost daily white peppermint mocha’s from Starbucks.  On a good note, cabinet installation on our kitchen is suppose to start tomorrow.  Wahoo!
So, since it’s a 3 day week, we aren’t going to start a new week in our reading series.  Instead, we will be doing lots of review and getting back into the swing of things.  I decided that we would be using Penguins as our theme this week.  We will be learning about penguins and doing tons of nonfiction reading activities.  You can download those for FREE by clicking on the picture below.
Since we are going to be learning about penguins, I decided to use Tacky the Penguin books to do some “fiction” activities as well.
I created this Fun with Fiction {Penguins} unit to help us review our comprehension skills.
Many of these graphic organizers can be used for any penguin themed nonfiction book, but some of them are geared towards Tacky the Penguin.

I really enjoy teaching about penguins so I’m hoping that these units will help us transition back into the school year with ease.
Do you head back tomorrow or are you off for the rest of the week?
