The Adventures of Snowflake the Elf {and a Freebie}

We have had our elf at home for 3 years now.  My girls LOVE it and look forward to Jingle coming every year.  It’s SO much fun!  This year I decided to have an elf in my classroom as well.
Last night, I wrapped up the elf in the box with this adorable tag from Kindercraze and snuck it to school in a bag since my 6 year old comes to school with me.

When I got to school this morning I put the package in the freezer in the teacher’s lounge.  I’m sure if anyone opened that this morning, they were wondering why in the world there was a Christmas present in the freezer. LOL!
After our morning work, we watched this movie.
I told my students that I wished we had an elf and I thought that they could write to Santa and ask him for one.  They couldn’t wait to get started.

I collected their letters and put them in an envelope addressed to the North Pole and sent it down to the office to be “mailed.”  All morning, the kids kept asking if I thought Santa had received their letters yet.  Around 11:30, one of the Reading Recovery teachers {that I had talked with that morning} came running into my classroom with a cold package covered in ice.
Talk about EXCITEMENT!!!  “Wow! Real North Pole ice!”  “It’s still cold!  It really is real!”  I let all of my students touch the cold box as we carefully opened it up to reveal our elf.
After reading the book, we came up with ideas for naming our elf.  Then, the students voted on their favorite.
Thankfully, the voting ended with “Snowflake” being the winner.  I just don’t think I could have called our elf Volcano or Sharkboy, but points for the creative minds of first graders!
During lunch, our elf escaped his packaging and found a place on the bookshelf.
I can’t wait to see what kind of mischief Snowflake gets himself into.  The true challenge for me will be trying to move him around without my daughter catching on, since she comes to my room everyday after school 🙂
I created these messages from our elf that I can place on the student’s desks that I wanted to share with you.  Just click on the picture below to download this freebie.
