Deep Thinking for Little Minds

I know I have been guilty in the past of not asking my students enough higher order thinking questions.  If I don’t make a conscious effort to ask open ended questions, I find myself asking a lot of yes or no questions, or questions that have only one right answer. I really wanted to focus on making sure I am asking questions to help my students improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
I created a set of question cards that I will be using every morning during our morning meeting.

This set includes 100 questions that will get your students thinking critically, and talking.
None of the questions have “one right answer” and none of them can be answered with just a simple “yes” or “no.”
These questions will lead to rich discussions, and help to improve oral language.
If you’d like to check out these cards (two sets available), just click on either of the pictures below to head on over to my Teachers Pay Teachers Store.

  3. I just got a job for this upcoming year teaching 1st grade….I took 6 years off while having kids. Before that I only taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I am getting so many great ideas from your blog!! Quick question with these cards….would you ask them as a group and have a few kids answer or share with a partner or do you like to get everyone to respond?

  4. I think if there was a different teacher and not edusharky.com I probably gave up long ago. But he explained so well and interestingly, and gave a lot of material to study, that you can then and successfully learn. Было тяжело так как начинал с нуля. But I’m not going to give up now). I think I was lucky with the school and the teacher. As the site said the main thing that would be a desire.

  5. I’m constantly searching on the internet for posts that will help me. Too much is clearly to learn about this. I believe you created good quality items in Functions also. Keep working, congrats!
