Wrapping up the end of the school year

As the year winds down, teachers are running around like crazy! They plan fun end-of-the-year activities, clean their classrooms, and take down decorations. Honestly, there is so much to handle that teachers often feel overwhelmed by everything. So, this list provides the perfect list of essential items when wrapping up the end of the school year. Teachers can breathe easier knowing they have a list to check off as they prepare to rest and relax over the summer.

Wrapping Up the End of the School Year

1. Declutter and Reorganize

When wrapping up the end of the school year, it is essential to declutter and reorganize! Honestly, it feels so good to clean out cabinets and make space for new items. Additionally, it is helpful to begin the following year with organized cabinets. Everything can become such a mess during the year when we are always rushing around. By taking the time now, you can wrap up the year knowing your classroom is ready for a reset in a few months.

2. Go Ahead and Plan for the First Week of School

When summer winds down, you will want to cherish every minute. So, when wrapping up the end of the school year, plan for the first week of the new year! It will feel so refreshing to know this challenging first week is ready. Instead of stressing about lessons, you can get to know your new students. For instance, the First Week of First Grade offers terrific ways to learn about your students personally and academically.

3. Reflect on your School Year

The year is fresh on your mind now. Honestly, you may want to close this chapter and prepare for the next, but reflecting is crucial. When wrapping up the end of the school year, write down what worked and what didn’t. Then, when it is time to dive into planning for the next year, these notes can help remind you what to keep doing and what to change. Additionally, decide what you may want to try next year, or what you might want to learn about this summer. Now is the perfect time for reflection.

4. Have FUN with Students

You only have a few more days with your students. This is a group you worked so hard to build relationships with. So, have fun with them! Go outside and play on the playground, play a game of basketball, or play games in the classroom. Students can even make an End of the Year Memory Folder. This is a fantastic way to reminisce on the amazing year everyone had while wrapping up the end of the school year. Or, you can use the End of the Year Celebration Activities! This includes jokes, this or that, brain dance breaks, and much more. Students will have so much fun celebrating together!

5. Choose Something Completely Non-School Related to Enjoy this Summer!

You need to decompress and relax over the summer! Otherwise, you will go into the year feeling overwhelmed and stressed. So, find something completely non-school related to enjoy. This may be knitting, baking, running, lying at the beach, or reading a new book. It may even be a new hobby. Anything is perfect! The only requirement is that it has nothing to do with school. This is a time to recharge your batteries and interests! Okay
